Co-Alchemy Performance Video (2025) CO-ALCHEMY 2025 Exhibitions
Hotel de Talleyrand Cure Nailhouse DESCRIPTION
Co-Alchemy is a collaborative performance and multi-media exhibition produced by Ian John Solomon and KESSWA with support from Culture Source. Through this staged performance, KESSWA weaves a spiral motif into Ian’s hair, in reference to recursive experiences of time, completion of a cycle. By braiding these spirals into Ian’s hair, they engage in an alchemic and ceremonial process that invokes renewal, while incorporating Ian’s handmade glass beads and KESSWA’s braided helixes. Through the use of looped video and field recordings that contain improvised songs and the ambient sound of the falls, both artists create an archive that fragments and ultimately protects the intimacy of the performance.
This work began as a site-specific installation at Cure Nailhouse and was shown in Hotel de Talleyrand in Paris, France durng Salonniere’s inaugural Detroit Salon Paris art week presentation.
